Scuba Diving in Idaho? Yes, You Really Can Learn to Dive in Twin Falls
When most people think about scuba diving, they picture tropical beaches, coral reefs, and crystal-clear blue water.
They probably don't picture Idaho.
But here in Twin Falls, you can learn to scuba dive, earn your certification, practice your skills in local waters, and eventually take those skills around the world.
That's exactly what we love about scuba diving at AWOL Adventure Sports. Your first experience breathing underwater doesn't have to start on a tropical vacation. It can start right here in Southern Idaho.
Curious About Scuba? Start With Try Scuba
Maybe you've always wanted to try scuba diving but aren't ready to commit to a full certification course.
That's where Try Scuba comes in.
Try Scuba is designed as an introduction to the underwater world. You'll learn some basic scuba concepts, get familiar with the equipment, and practice foundational skills such as mask clearing and buoyancy control in a pool environment.
Most importantly, you get to answer one very important question:
What does it actually feel like to breathe underwater?
It's a surprisingly strange—and incredibly fun—experience the first time you do it.
Try Scuba is a great option for someone who's curious about diving, families looking for something different to try, or anyone who has ever looked at a scuba diver and thought, I wonder what that's like.
You don't have to know if scuba is going to become your new hobby. That's what trying it is for.
Ready to Become a Certified Diver?
If Try Scuba leaves you wanting more, the next step is an Open Water certification.
AWOL's Open Water course combines classroom or online knowledge development, confined-water training, and open-water dives. Students learn the essential skills and knowledge needed to become independent recreational divers.
The course isn't simply about putting on a tank and swimming around.
You'll learn how your equipment works, how to plan dives, how to manage your air supply, how to respond to common situations underwater, and how to become comfortable and confident in the water.
The course includes four open-water dives, where you put those skills into practice. Depending on the season and course schedule, AWOL's training takes place at locations including Dierkes Lake, Blue Lake, and Homestead Crater.
And that's when scuba starts getting really fun.
You Don't Have to Live Near the Ocean to Be a Diver
One of the best things about learning to dive in Idaho is that your certification doesn't stay in Idaho.
Once you're certified, the entire underwater world opens up.
You can take your certification on vacation and dive in places you've only seen in photographs. You can join local dives, continue your education, learn new specialties, and eventually travel with other divers.
That's a big part of what makes AWOL different.
We're not just interested in getting you certified and sending you on your way. Scuba is a major part of what we do, from training and equipment to continuing education and international dive travel.
From Twin Falls to the Other Side of the World
We've seen AWOL divers take their love of diving far beyond Idaho.
Our international trips have taken divers to incredible destinations and legendary dive sites, including some of the world's most famous wrecks. We've written about dives on wrecks such as the Iro Maru in Palau, the Giannis D in the Red Sea, the Thistlegorm, and the Hilma Hooker in Bonaire.
That's the part of scuba we love most.
You can start with a simple question:
“Can I try scuba diving?”
Then it becomes:
“Can I get certified?”
Then:
“Where should I dive next?”
And before you know it, you're looking at a map wondering how many places you can visit with a dive bag.
So, Is Scuba Right for You?
If you've ever been curious about scuba diving, you don't need to decide whether you're going to become a lifelong diver.
Just start with the first step.
Try Scuba gives you a chance to experience breathing underwater and see whether you enjoy it. If you do, an Open Water certification gives you the foundation to begin exploring the underwater world for yourself.
And yes, you can start that journey right here in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Your first dive doesn't have to start at the ocean.
It can start in your own backyard.
That's Adventure Without Limits.
